A facet and domain-level analysis of two trait models of personality: Relationship with subjective well-being

This study extended the current understanding of the personality-subjective well-being relationship by relating two trait models (i.e., the Five-Factor model of personality and the HEXACO model of personality) at the domain and facet level to dimensions of subjective well-being in a sample of individuals from the United States. Results of correlations based on a sample of 127 participants revealed support for a majority of the hypothesized personality-SWB relations at the domain and facet level. Results of canonical correlations and hierarchical regressions provided no support for the hypotheses that the combination of HEXACO personality traits accounted for more total and incremental variance in SWB dimensions than did the Five-Factor Model. Implications of the findings, limitations of the study, and directions for future research are discussed.
