Abstract Details

1971, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Bowling Green State University, Educational Administration and Supervision.
Interpersonal relationships exist between a supervising teacher and a student teacher which affect the success of the student teaching experience. Personality factors and role expectations of the supervising teacher and the student teacher may affect the success of the student-teaching assignment. The study was designed to determine to what degree the role expectations and personality characteristics of the student teacher and supervising teachers affect the evaluation of the student teacher's performance, The population for the study was defined as 119 studentteachers from Bowling Green State University, Ohio University, Kent State University and 119 supervising teachers who work with the student teachers during the fall quarter of the 1970- 71 school year. The Edwards Personal Preference Schedule and Role Expectation Instrument were administered to the student-teachers and supervising teachers before the experience began. A performance evaluation report was completed by both the student teacher and supervising teacher at the end of the student teaching experience. The analyses of relationships between student teachers' personality characteristics, role expectations and performance evaluation and the supervising teachers' were made by "t" tests. All hypotheses rejected when taking into consideration the data as whole. It would appear that congruence between supervising teacher and student teacher could occur regardless of significance on role expectation instrument or selected personality characteristics regardless of high or nonhigh performance on the student teacher evaluation report.
