Abstract Details

1975, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Bowling Green State University, Educational Administration and Supervision.
This study was concerned with the investigation of the attitudes of selected publics of Brock College of Education towards the needs and directions of Brock College of Education. The "Needs and Directions" inventory was aimed at identifying areas of disagreement between the respondent groups. Previous research including the Macleod and Wright reports have indicated wide discrepancies in the attitudes of selected populations towards the amalgamation of teachers 1 colleges with Ontario universities. The purpose of this research was to determine if there were significant differences of opinion between the six selected respondent groups, Brock University faculty, Brock College of Education students, elementary school principals, elementary school teachers, superintendents and consultants, and school board members, chosen within the boundaries of the Regional Municipality of Niagara. The design of this study determined differences of opinion between respondent groups to the needs and directions of Brock College of Education. This was achieved through the development of a seventy item "Needs and Directions" inventory, including the five categories of College Program, College Administration, College-Community Interaction, College Professional Relations, and College Graduate Behaviour. Responses to the inventory were analyzed using the F-ratio analysis of variance. Sheffe tests were then conducted on items with significant differences. Both tests were computed at the .05 level of confidence. Data analyses revealed that the respondent groups differed in their responses to fifty-seven of the seventy item inventory. The Sheffe test revealed that the respondent groups expressed significant differences on eleven items in College Program, fifteen in College Administration seven in College-Community Interaction, ten in College Professional Relations, and three in College Graduate Behaviour. On the basis of these data, the hypothesis, was rejected. The six selected respondent groups differed significantly in their opinions of the needs and directions of Brock College of Education.
