Abstract
Database fingerprinting (a steganography technique) is a security method for copyright protecting, ownership claiming, and possession proving. Differential privacy is the golden standard for data privacy protection. They both take advantage of the randomness of noise injection. This dissertation ``covers" data security and privacy with ``binary cloak'', i.e., attaining liability and privacy guarantees using carefully calibrated Bernoulli noises. This dissertation advances the field of data security and privacy by (i) identifying more powerful correlation attacks that distort the embedded fingerprints in shared databases, and devising the first robust fingerprinting schemes that can mitigate the correlation attacks, (ii) developing the first output perturbation mechanism that fills in the gap between differential privacy and binary correlated data, and proposing to tune the parameters of noise distribution via utility optimization under privacy constraint, and (iii) designing the first database fingerprinting scheme that can simultaneously achieve both privacy and liability guarantees, and theoretically establishing the connection between security, privacy, and utility in the course of data sharing.
