Test-Retest Reliability Analysis of Total Support Kinetics in Walking and Running Using Healthy Subjects

Total support moment (TSM) sums lower limb joint moment to generate a single metric to analyze lower limb kinetics. Researchers have used TSM to identify compensation patterns in patients with knee osteoarthritis, ACL reconstruction, meniscectomy, and ankle instability. The purpose of this study was to determine the test-retest reliability of TSM in healthy, young adults. University aged subjects were recruited to participate in two sessions, where they performed five trials of walking and running at controlled speeds. TSM was calculated from the collected data and Peak TSM was extracted from the data and TSM Impulse was calculated across the length of the trial. ICCs were calculated using the Peak TSM and TSM Impulse for both walking and running. Running was found to have a higher reliability than walking for both Peak TSM and TSM Impulse.
