KIST, STEPHANIE, M.F.A December 2013 CREATIVE WRITING FRUITFUL: SEEKING TRUE NORTH IN A BABYMAKING WILDERNESS Director of Thesis: David Giffels Fruitful: Seeking True North in a Babymaking Wilderness is a memoir about love, marriage, infertility and hope. As the narrator and her husband discover and cope with infertility, they contemplate several directions in which they could move to address the problem and build their family. They also tap into the deep well of their love for each other, which feeds the love they already have for their future child or children. There are challenges both expected and unforeseen along the way as the narrator relies on her faith, her deepening medical knowledge and her partnership with her husband. Their marriage is, perhaps incongruously, strengthened by the hardship, as well as by what happens when everything they want comes in the most surprising package.
