Abstract
Developing high quality software increases customer satisfaction, speeds up the development process, reduces costs, offers a competitive advantage for the company, and allows modification or new features to be added with greater ease. Quality function deployment (QFD) deploys quality into the product by using the requirements of the customer as a starting point to drive all development activities for the a product. In this sense, QFD becomes proactive regarding quality problems rather than reactive by waiting for customer complaints. Software project failures are mostly associated with poor requirements. The biggest advantage of QFD is keeping the customer in mind while moving through different development activities. The QFD approach to software development is a tool to carry out requirements analysis procedures. QFD was originally developed for the manufacturing industry. The application of QFD in software development shows promising results. However, some considerations must be taken into account before using QFD in software development. The ultimate goal of this study is to identify software engineering activities that are QFD steps and determine what QFD is missing in order to represent the software development life cycle. Moreover, this paper provides suggestions on using different QFD tools toward improving the software development process. Finally, this study presents an enhanced software QFD model.
