Abstract
The modern technological era has brought about the Semantic Web, a developing and effective way to sort through and organize large amounts of information. Ontologies are the backbone of the Semantic Web, and essential in achieving the vision of the Semantic Web. Ontologies work on clarifying the data in a way that enables machines to understand their meaning. The Arabic Language currently does not have a significant presence on the Web, in part because of its complexity. It is highly inflectional, and support for this language is very limited from governments, scientific groups, and businesses. There is a growing need to increase Arabic content on the web and to increase the number and quality of tools to support an Arabic Semantic Web. To maintain and achieve the same level of Arabic access as other languages, further work in building Arabic ontologies to achieve the Semantic Web vision is required. One such goal is to design and create a robust Arabic ontology that represents the concepts from a large and significant subset of Arabic. For each root in the Arabic Language, there is a set of meanings that form related concepts. This ontology is organized to respect these related concepts. The relationships in the ontology are based on a well-known traditional text. Preliminary results are very promising.
