An Internship with the BioSAR TM Project, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN

Abstract Details

2003, Master of Environmental Science, Miami University, Environmental Sciences.
There has been a growing need for a remote sensing system capable of rapid measurement of sequestered carbon in aboveground terrestrial biomass. Zai-Amelex attempted to fulfill this requirement by designing and building the BioSARTM system for NASA to measure rain forest biomass. My internship at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Environmental Sciences Division focused on providing a better understanding of the uses and limitations of this technology. My general responsibilities were (1) to develop ground truth data on forest biomass and structure and (2) merge that information with radar data to see if the BioSARTM can be used to accurately predict forest biomass.
