Abstract Details

2003, Master of Arts, Miami University, English: Creative Writing.
This work tells the story of Kerry Matthews, a man in his early thirties who has just been diagnosed with testicular cancer. The story follows Kerry over the weekend immediately following his diagnosis as he works to come to terms with his illness and his relationships with family and friends in light of his situation. Kerry comes to realize that without a career or family of his own, he has become somewhat stuck in his own past. As events unfold, Kerry’s desire to become “unstuck” calls many of his relationships into question, in particular his relationship with Reggie - a young woman he has been having an affair with since college, who now lives with his best friend. As the novel and the weekend progress Kerry finds himself struggling to find a way to move ahead in his life, even as he fears it might be coming to an end.
