Abstract
This study examines the cultural and historical significance of the use of proverbs in La Celestina. The study begins with a short introduction about proverbs and continues byexplaining the origin of the term. Historically, the study illustrates how proverbs became popular in the Medieval Period. Specifically, it examines proverbs in La Celestina, their description, and the characters that use proverbs in their dialogue. Finally, the study examines a few neologisms that appear in the play to emphasize the cultural fact that the higher the social class, the less proverbs were used.
