Abstract Details

2015, Master of Gerontological Studies, Miami University, Gerontology.
The purpose of this study was to identify the needs and desires of current residents 50+ to age in place in the Oxford area. Surveys were mailed to a random sample of 700 individuals with a response rate of 56.5%. Ninety percent of respondents rate the quality of life in the area as excellent/good. While most want to stay in their homes, 62% would consider moving nearby while downsizing to either a condominium or smaller house. Easier home maintenance, declining health and desire to downsize were given as primary reasons to move. Sixty-four percent desire to live in an age-integrated community. This study can be used to assist the City of Oxford, Oxford Township, Oxford Seniors and the Oxford VillAGE Network in the future decision making.
