Tukura, Jerusalem Nyizofo

Abstract Details

2023, Specialist in Education, Miami University, School Psychology.
This study examines families in a poverty remediation program Butler County Success Program (BCSP) to determine how sorting decisions (self-selecting by self-referral versus being referred into the program) influences the students’ academic and social outcomes. The study also compares the outcome of participants based on whether they self-selected into the program or were referred into the program by others (e.g., teacher, social worker, etc.), using pretest and posttest results completed by parents and teachers and Measures of Academic Progress for students. The self-determination theory guides this research as it proposes that more favorable outcomes can be expected for self-governed behavior.
