Distance Distribution and Error Performance of Reduced Dimensional Circular Trellis Coded Modulation

Baldiwala, Aliasgar M.

Abstract Details

2003, Master of Science (MS), Ohio University, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (Engineering and Technology).

This thesis employs circular trellis coded modulation with a reduced number of dimensions and analyses the effect of decreasing the number of dimensions on the distance distribution and error probability. The signal constellation which gives the best distance distribution and error performance for three and six dimensions is chosen and compared to that of a signal constellation with twelve dimensions. The tradeoff between the reduction in the bandwidth requirement and the error probability is discussed.
