Developing a mathematical model for scheduling re-layout projects

Abstract Details

1994, Master of Science (MS), Ohio University, Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (Engineering).
This research focuses on an often overlooked part of a facilities re-layout project: developing the project schedule. By moving departments to temporary locations, it is possible to reduce the overall project duration while increasing costs. A mixed integer programming model finds schedules that minimize department move costs to meet a given duration subject to precedence constraints. An algorithm uses this model to find non-dominated time and cost solutions to the re- layout problem. The algorithm is demonstrated on three actual re-layout projects.
