This thesis presents new precision baseband pulse shaping to reduce intersymbol interference (ISI) in a satellite system. This new pulse shaping is accomplished via a digital system rather than analog as done presently. The pulse shaping technique uses the full raised cosine function, as developed by Nyquist, and the square raised cosine function for ISI reduction. The square root raised cosine function is used for matched filtering. For the matched filtering, 4 different finite impulse response (FIR) filters were designed for the receiver. A preliminary investigation of compensation for nonlinear distortion due to traveling wave tube amplifiers is investigated. All data generated is in support of a new digital transmitter under development at NASA Lewis Research Center.
