This thesis is devoted to study of the D1-D5-P system. It is known that this system provides a microscopic model of a five dimensional black hole carrying three charges and two independent angular momenta. We first consider a subset of states of this system with zero momentum. The known exact geometries for these states are used to give an explicit AdS 3 /CFT 2 map for the two charge system. We construct dual geometries for true bound states of D1-D5 system in the presence of a non-zero B-field and give a supergravity description of the process of tachyon condensation. We construct a number of solutions describing three charge states, both perturbative and exact. All the solutions have the property that they are singularity and horizon free. The structure of black hole microstates in general is expected to satisfy the same properties. This leads to a concrete proposal for resolving the information paradox.
