Abstract Details

2003, Master of Fine Arts, Ohio State University, Art.

Advances in the modern digital age continue to change and influence our daily lives. The media of technologies has brought us greater accessibility to a new world of images, motions, and interaction. The media intimately impacts how we acquire information and how we entertain ourselves in our daily lives. While the overwhelming amount of information and imagery afforded by new media and technologies helps to broaden our knowledge and imagination, this information and imagery also control and drive our conscious and subconscious minds toward the perspective that the media imposes on us.

This written thesis discusses the development of the animation "Limited," which serves as a metaphor for how the media restricts and shapes our thoughts and actions. By using cutting-edge computer animation, it offers an ironic testimony to the modern media. The flea, representing the modern-day human being, depicts a contorted portrait of a modern man or woman and gives us an insight into the true face of the media.

This written thesis analyzes the experience and learning that I gained through the production of the animation "Limited," which includes the conceptual background for the project, any related research, and stages of the development of the animation.
