Conodont Biostratigraphy of the Middle and Upper Ordovician Viola Group of the South-Central Oklahoma Arbuckle Anticline

Dresbach, Russell Ivan

Abstract Details

1983, Master of Science, Ohio State University, Geological Sciences.
The conodont biostratigraphy of the Viola Group of the south-central Oklahoma Arbuckle Anticline is described. Over 8000 identifiable conodont elements were recovered from 115 samples collected from the Viola Group at a single locality . The stratigraphic ranges of the conodonts are used to graphically correlate the Viola Group of the Arbuckle Anticline with the Ordovician Composite Standard Section of North America. The correlation shows the probable age of the lower 2.5 m of the studied section to be middle Shermanian. The remainder of the section could be all or part of late Shermanian to middle Maysvillian in age. North American Midcontinent Province conodont faunas are found at the top and bottom of the studied section while North Atlantic Province conodonts dominate the remainder of the section.
