Expanding Cultural Modifications to External Attributions

Berkowitz, Daniel Ryan

Abstract Details

2020, Master of Arts, Ohio State University, Political Science.
For decades, literature in Political Science and Psychology have focused on the attributions Individuals make for societal inequality. Internal attributions for inequality blame inequality on the characteristics of Black people, while external attributions blame that inequality on social, legal, and socioeconomic pressures. Nelson and Joselus introduced the concept of cultural attributions to the literature in the form of modified internal attributions that made internal attributions more appealing to White participants. This paper proposes an extension of this concept to external attributions.
