Abstract Details

This research examined the ability of the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory-3 (SASSI-3; Miller & Lazowski, 1999) to predict retention and recidivism among male perpetrators of intimate partner violence. An ex post facto study was conducted with archived SASSI-3 scores from 85 male participants who had taken part in a batterer intervention program. In the study, the SASSI-3 Family vs. Control Subjects (FAM) and Correctional (COR) scales were evaluated on their ability to predict reoffending behavior and length of stay in treatment of the 85 participants. Due to evidence that SES can contribute to these behaviors, these scales were measured with SES covaried. The results indicated that there was no statistically significant evidence that the COR or FAM scale could predict any of the behaviors that were hypothesized in the study.
