The Oak Openings Region is home to ten of the fifteen anuran species of Ohio and provides critical wet prairie habitat however, woody plant encroachment threatens wet prairies. Woody plant management alters habitat and I expect this to effect anuran presence and abundance. Citizen scientists completed surveys using audio point count, funnel trap, water depth, and modified p-plot vegetation surveys to determine if anurans positively respond to woody plant management in the Oak Openings Region. I expected average anuran call index and abundance to have a negative correlation with average woody stem densities and canopy cover and a positive correlation with herbaceous cover and water depth. I performed a series of simple linear regressions with a Bonferroni correction (a=0.01) to examine the relationships of average anuran call index and abundance with woody stem densities, canopy cover, herbaceous cover, and water depth. Both average anuran call index and average abundance had significant negative correlations with average woody stem densities (p<0.001 and p=0.001), average percent canopy cover (p<0.001 and p=0.005), and positive correlations with average estimated percent herbaceous cover (p<0.001 and p=0.011). Contrary to my expectations, average anuran call index (0.027) had no correlation with water depth. However, average anuran abundance had a significant (p=0.013) positive correlation with water depth, which suggests water depth has more influence on tadpoles than calling adult male anurans. Since both average anuran call index and average abundance had negative correlations with average woody plant density, managing for woody plant encroachment not only conserves wet prairie habitat, but it is also beneficial for anuran species.
