ANALYSIS OF DESIGN ASPECTS IN ACTIVE SPORTSWEAR

Abstract Details

2002, MDes, University of Cincinnati, Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning : Design.
In the recent years, fashion and sports apparel have become closer. People use more active sports apparel, also as part of their everyday wardrobe. New technological developments have created fabrics and materials with improved performance and appearance. Consumer population can be divided into top athlete segment, high-end segment and mass-market segment. Those different groups of consumers wear active sports apparel for a variety of reasons. This work explores the different segments in active sportswear and footwear in order better to understand the migration of trends among them, by analyzing the history, marketing strategy, and advertising campaigns of major market players in the sports fashion and activewear industries to reveal the different aspects considered during their design and marketing processes. This study suggests a model showing that active sportswear from one segment could be transitioned to another segment by adjusting its design aspects mixture to compensate for their different compositions.
