Abstract
In today’s society, creativity is a highly valued commodity. Creativity fuels innovation and change in our society. Historically, many of the highly creative people have been called bohemian. They have made their mark by creating new art forms, movements, and ideas. The bohemians base their lifestyle around their creativity. They have rebelled against the standards that society has imposed on them, and created environments in which their lifestyle can flourish. Often these environments are dilapidated areas of the city that provide cheap rent and little security, but have a historical and pedestrian friendly character. The bohemians have converted these areas into energetic neighborhoods, becoming unique landmarks to the city. Today, these are the most popular areas of town attracting visitors who want to experience a bohemian lifestyle. Evaluating the bohemian environments of the past, and the lifestyle which they desire, architects can better plan for this group of people.
