Mixed-signal CAD simulation plays a critical role in reducing the marketing time of a product in the chip Industry. Such a simulation is primarily carried out using Hardware description languages (HDLs). Most analog and mixed-signal hardware description language support modeling in both time and frequency. Studying models in the frequency domain is imperative in the field of wireless communication, RF and microwave engineering. For example noise analysis and filter characteristics and properties are best studied in frequency domain. VHDL-AMS is a HDL that supports linear modeling in frequency. In this thesis we present an improved dynamic frequency step algorithm to add non-linear capability to frequency domain modeling in VHDL-AMS. Although the language allows modeling predominantly in the time domain, an useful extension to the language is suggested to support general (including non-linear) frequency domain modeling. A frequency domain simulator is developed as part of this research effort to illustrate the results. Furthermore the capability of the simulator to choose the domain of the model at runtime is shown with examples.
