The present study investigates the peristaltic transport of non-Newtonian fluid, modeled as power law and Bingham fluid, in a diverging tube with different wall wave forms.Fourier series is employed to get the expressions for wall shapes.Solutions for pressure rise – flow rate relationship are computed for different amplitude ratios and power law indices. The results obtained are compared with semen transport inside the vas deferens of a rhesus monkey for which experimental data are available. The results indicate that amplitude ratio and power law index play a vital role in peristalsis.Pathlines of massless particles are traced to investigate the occurrence of reflux. It is observed that for zero flow rate, reflux occurs near the tube wall while particles near the axis have a net displacement in the positive direction.Occurrence of reflux strongly depends on amplitude ratio and shape of the peristaltic waves.
