Abstract Details

2007, MEd, University of Cincinnati, Education : Health Promotion and Education.
Research suggested that faith communities were probable places to offer health promotion and education programs and successfully impact long-term behavior change. The purpose of this study was to determine the faith community’s attitude toward and level of involvement in community health promotion and education programs in the Greater Cincinnati Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area (GCCMSA). Differences between the number and variety of programs, collaboration with other faith communities and agencies, coordination of programs, perceived health status, attitude, denomination, location, size, educational background, ethnic composition, member age, and annual and health budgets of faith communities were explored. To conduct the study, 1,559 faith communities in the GCCMSA were randomly sampled and mailed a survey that consisted of 35 questions. The majority of the faith communities involved in this research offer health promotion and education programs and most hold a variety of different programs.
