Abstract Details

2012, M.M., University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music: Double Performance Major.
Rejoice! is a choral composition that consists of three different sections (A-B-C) based on the texts about joy–Psalms 100:1-5 and 104:33-35 in the Bible. Section 1 has a G major tonality with 2nd and 4th added-note chords and quartal chords. Section 2 utilizes Arnold Schoenberg’s “Sprechstimme” vocal style in which the melody is spoken at approximate pitches rather than sung on exact pitches. In Section 3, the vocal parts sing and speak the assigned verses in Matthew 5:3-10. An earlier version was composed for SSAATTBB, piano, and two violins in October 2011. The present version is a revised version for SSSAAATTBB and piano in December 2011.
