STUDY OF CLICK CHEMISTRY: WORKING TOWARDS ‘CLICKING’ A NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY TO AN APOPTOSIS INHIBITOR Q-VD-OPH

Abstract Details

2012, MS, University of Cincinnati, Arts and Sciences: Chemistry.
The exploitation of the copper(I)-catalyzed 1,2,3-triazole forming reaction between azides and terminal alkynes has contributed to drug discovery due to the high degree of dependability, efficiency, specificity and biocompatibility of the reactions and products. Using this well-known click chemistry reaction, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, naproxen, could possibly be coupled to an apoptosis inhibitor, Q-VD-OPh. Two synthetic routes were envisioned. The most effective click reaction was the Cu(I) catalyzed cycloaddition of naproxen propargyl ester to 4-azido-2,6-difluorophenol acetate. Characterizations of these materials were done using 1HNMR, 13CNMR, liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, and infrared spectroscopy.
