Adolescent abortion is a severe social problem in China. This thesis focused on the problem of Chinese adolescent who suffer from psychological disorders after the abortion. The purpose was to understand those adolescents’ actual journeys after an abortion, major barriers to get post abortion care, and how parents get involved. A literature review was conducted to understand abortion history in China, social factors for psychological disorders, and the current situation for post abortion care. Also, this study designed a research to understand the problem in depth. From interviews with adolescents and parents, this research explored adolescents’ psychological health after the abortion, the actual needs they had, and the major barriers for seeking help. Conclusions and discussions were generated from the research. Investigations on post abortion care and psychological disorders just started in China. This thesis is also an exploratory study, which will provide practical guidelines adolescents and parents to help adolescents recover psychologically.
