2021, DMA, University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music: Composition.
This piece is a chamber opera, written for soprano, tenor, bass, flute, oboe, B-flat clarinet, piano, string quartet and double bass. The libretto I wrote is based on the original story by Cixin LIU who is a Chinese science fiction writer. The music language and techniques show a hybrid of tonal, atonal, noise, sprechstimme, controlled aleatory, leitmotif, extended text-painting, quotation-collage, etc.—all are incorporated for portraying the characters, depicting the scenes, and conveying the emotions.
