Federated search to merge the results of the extracted functional requirements

Abstract Details

2022, MS, University of Cincinnati, Engineering and Applied Science: Electrical Engineering.
Federated search is one of the important research fields of information retrieval. Although many general-purpose search engines can help users find the information they need, the widespread existence of some deep webs that cannot be crawled limits the effective acquisition of information by users. The federated search technology can effectively solve this problem. Result merging is an important step in federated search, and the choice of its merging method directly affects the quality of retrieval results. This thesis firstly discusses the basic principles of two query result merging algorithms: the classic CORI algorithm and the SSL algorithm. During the experiment, we extracted more than 200 functional requirements from 250 Wikipedia pages in three ways. The application domain of Wikipedia pages for extracting functional requirements is web conferences. The three ways for extracting functional requirements are pair, TextRank, and MaRk. The extracted functional requirements are matched by FuzzyWuzzy, and the similarity of the index of the string is used to evaluate the matching retrieval results. The performance of the two merging algorithms is evaluated by comparing the mean average precision and counting correct matches of extracting requirements. The results show that, in the same experimental environment, the performance of the SSL algorithm is better than the CORI algorithm. Selecting the SSL algorithm for query result merging can achieve satisfactory results, and it is more suitable as a federated search result merging algorithm.
