Abstract
Gas-phase ligand exchange reactions between M(acac)2, M(hfac)2, and M(tftm)2 species, where M is Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and/or Zn(II) were observed to occur in a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. The gas-phase mixed ligand products, namely [M(acac)(hfac)]+, [M(acac)(tftm)]+ or [M(hfac)(tftm)]+, were formed following the co-sublimation of either homo-metal or hetero-metal precursors. The mixed ligand products of these species were also observed to occur following ion-neutral reactions between the mass-selected fluorinated acetylacetonate precursor ion and the target M(acac)2 neutral. The gas-phase formation of [Cu(acac)(tftm)]+, [Cu(hfac)(tftm)]+, [Ni(acac)(tftm)]+, [Ni(hfac)(tftm)]+, [Co(acac)(tftm)]+, [Co(hfac) tftm)]+, [Zn(acac)(tftm)]+, and [Zn(hfac)(tftm)]+ are reported herein for the first time along with the corresponding fragmentation patterns of these mixed ligand species and those of Cu(tftm)2, Ni(tftm)2, Co(tftm)2 and Zn(tftm)2.
